2025 Race Summary

This season was marked with several disappointments. The swims in the Clear Lake and the National Senior Game’s Triathlon were both cancelled and replaced by a 1-mile run. The was first due to chilly water and air temperatures and the second due to high E-Coli levels. Although, the biggest disappointment of the season was the complete cancellation of the US Triathlon’s Sprint National Championship due to flash flooding and water contamination in Lake Michigan resulting from torrential rains.

Overall, I competed in and completed 4 out of 5 planned triathlons and participated in two swim meets. As in the previous year, run improvement remained one of my top training priorities. I continued to incorporate track running and road races.

The following is a summary of each of the major events I participated in during the year:

16th Annual Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic Swim Meet, Orland, FL: Feb 1, 2025. This swim meet was originally scheduled for Oct 2024 but was postponed due to Hurricane Milton. A highly competitive event attended by swimmers from all over the country as well as other countries. 25 M Freestyle – Placed 8^th, 200 M Freestyle – Placed 6^th, 50 M Breaststroke – Placed 5^th and 100 M Breaststroke – Placed 7^th.

Clear Lake Sprint Triathlon – Iowa State Championships, Clear Lake, IA (USA Triathlon Sanctioned): May 24, 2025 (.33-mile swim, 12.4-mile bike and 3.1-mile run) – Placed 3rd in 60-64 AG. Due to chilly water and air temperature the swimming portion was cancelled and replaced by an I-mile run. This was concerning for me; under good conditions my swim can give me an early advantage. Considering this was a B race for me, I was extremely happy to make the podium, especially early in my Tri Season.

National Senior Games Swim Meet, Des Moines, IA: July 25-28, 2025 (50, 100 and 200 Yard Freestyle, 50, 100 Yard Breaststroke and 200 Yard Medley and Freestyle Relays) – Placed 18^th, 14^th, 13^th, 13th, 11^th, 4^th, and 3^rd. Personally not a strong meet for me. However, I did manage a 50 Breaststroke PR during the 200 Medley Relay. A major highlight for me was capturing the Bronze Medal with Team MN in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

2025 US Triathlon Sprint-Distance National Championship, Milwaukee, WI (USA Triathlon Sanctioned): August 10, 2025. (750 meter swim, 12.4-mile bike and 3.1-mile run) – Cancelled. The Sprint Championship was cancelled due to flash flooding and water contamination in Lake Michigan from torrential rains. Although, I was able to swim the 750 meter swim course in Lake Michigan for familiarization prior to my schedule race. This was supposed to be my second of two A races for the season.

Lake Nona Tri-Nona Sprint Triathlon Series Race 2, Orlando, FL (USA Triathlon Sanctioned): August 24 (.25-mile swim, 11-mile bike and 3.1-mile run) – Placed 2^nd in 60-64 AG. This was a B race. A hot day with a very weedy swim. I was happy with the overall results.

Great Floridian Sprint Triathlon, Clermont, FL (USA Triathlon Sanctioned): October 19 – (.25-mile swim, 8-mile bike and 3.1-mile run) – Placed 3rd in 60-64 AG Great This was a B race. This race was rescheduled from last year due to Hurricane Milton. Non – wet suit legal. Overall, good race day conditions.
